“It’s all about the game”
Over the last 15 years, Phil Paquin and Keith Briggs have logged their fair share of cage time. Between the two, there are 5 girls – Phil and his wife Melissa have two and Keith and his wife Jen, three. All are fastpitch softball enthusiasts and four of the five play competitively. Serving as Coaches, Board Members and volunteers they begged borrowed and pleaded for practice space and batting cage time throughout Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Over the past few years Phil and Keith have joked about the rising prices of cage time and more importantly the lack of availability. The joking turned to serious discussions and when the perfect location off Diamond Hill Road near the Rhode Island/Mass line became available, they jumped on it. Line Drive Athletics will celebrate it’s grand opening on May 8th showcasing its new indoor batting facility at 30 Industrial Road in Cumberland. “We are offering a little something different,” says Phil Paquin. He continues, “We are parents and Coaches. We know what we want and we understand what the kids need.” Line Drive has made significant investments in the latest in pitching equipment, a clean, comfortable family-friendly environment, and cages that serve both baseball and fastpitch softball. Cages vary in length from 40 feet to 65 feet – there are currently three with plans over the next 6 months to add as many as 3 more along with warm up and training areas. The entire facility comprises some 6,000 square feet and is located 1/8 of a mile from 295 and Diamond Hill. Keith Briggs proudly states: “Our goal at Line Drive is to provide a place where kids of all abilities can come and practice in a family friendly environment working on becoming the best player they can be.” It seems as though Line Drive Athletics is on to something. Several local club teams have shown interest in making Line Drive their indoor practice facility of choice and the schedules are beginning to book up as coaches and trainers seek cage time for budding young talent.
